Iranian expatriates as soon as they enter Iran, they will be summoned/captured by the Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic of Iran (Also known as “Vezarat-e Ettela’at Jomhuri-ye Eslami-ye Iran) and requesting them to have security cooperation with Vezarat-e Ettela’at Jomhuri-ye Eslami-ye Iran or else they will be arrested for not cooperating with them.
We have heard of these types of cases from several people and their families where security forces came and captured Iranian expatriates and asked them to have security cooperation with them of else they will be arrested and imprison them for years.
Hamid Babaei is one of those Iranian expatriates who has been imprisoned. The charges according to Vezarat-e Ettela’at Jomhuri-ye Eslami-ye Iran is spying and not cooperating with Vezarat-e Ettela’at Jomhuri-ye Eslami-ye Iran.
Hamid Babaei after 3 years and 7 months studying in Belgium and had 1 year left to finish his doctorate in finance, with his wife on the 27/07/2013 (05/05/1392) returned to Iran to visit his family.
Shortly after his arrival he was captured by the Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic of Iran. In a 10 minutes court, judge (Salavati) head of the Islamic Revolutionary Court Branch 15, sentenced Hamid to over 10 years of imprisonment. He was charged with spying and cooperating with organisations against Iran.
Hamid’s wife Kobra Parsa-ju said: her husband just came to visit his family. She said that Hamid was captured by the Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic of Iran and they asked his to have security cooperation with them but Hamid did not accept the Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s request.
Kobra added that during the interview between her husband and the Ministry of Intelligence of the Islamic Republic of Iran, they asked Hamid if had any online activities or took part of any meeting or any movement or protest?
Hamid responded: No.
They asked Hamid: We had few protest in front of our embassy in Belgium, did you take part of that or were you there?
Hamid responded: No, I have been busy with my study.
They threatened Hamid with imprisoning him if he does not cooperate with them.
They told Hamid you only have two ways, one accept our offered and cooperate with us, become spy, and spy on people/organisations who oppose our regime and get important information for them to us or else we will put you in prison.
Kobra told roozonline that they insulted and threatened her and her husband. They took her husband (Hamid) to 240 Evin prison. They did not allow him to talk to me or to his parents over the phone, Kobra said.
In the questioning, they swore and threatened Hamid, torture him mentally. They force Hamid to separate himself from Kobra. They told Hamid that they have evidence against him and they will present at the court, court day came and they had no evidence against Hamid. The judge did not let Hamid to defend himself, they also did not let him to have a lawyer.
Also, recently Iranian Security Intelligence Forces arrested two brothers Abbass and Kazem Sari.
Also, recently 6 years’ prison for an Ahwazi refugee after returning to Iran from the Netherlands.
