Civil Protesters Sentenced to Prison

By Hossein Bouazar

Saleh Tamoli, and Abdullah Cheldawi sent to the branch 8 court. The two Arab activists were sentenced to 3 years and 5 years imprisonment in the Ahwaz Revolutionary Court.

Branch 13 court revised the sentence issued against two civil and cultural activists in Ahwaz.

The story started when Iranian regime as per usual, started confiscating Ahwazi lands, this time they confiscated Jalizie region (Dechet Alabbas) of the lands of the rural farmers of the village of Abbas.

After participating in a civil protest against Iranian regime’s land confiscation on December 8th, 2017 Salah Tamoli, son of Ramadan and Abdullah Cheldawi, son of ghafeli gathered in Alavi suburb in Ahwaz, security forces arrested dozens of Arab activists.

The charges pressed by the Branch Revolutionary court “advertisement against the Islamic Republic of Iran” and “being a member of group which opposes the regime”.

Both of these activists are accused of planning to hold illegal gatherings in Eid al-Fitr and participation in the protest aggregation against Iran’s land confiscation.

These civil activists have been in prison of Iranian intelligence under physical and psychological torture, and then transferred to Shibani Prison in Ahwaz, and now they were released with bail.

Saleh Tamoli Tarifi has been arrested and imprisoned four times for his cultural and civil activities, and Abdullah Chaldawi has been arrested and imprisoned nine times for his civil activities by the IRGC and intelligence agencies. Both of these Arab activists were arrested along with hundreds of Arab citizens.

They have another case on false security charges in the Revolutionary Court, the verdict of which has not yet been issued.

We, the Ahwazi Centre for Human Rights (ACHR), concerns, while Ahwazi Arabs faced continued oppression and discrimination, the most significant human rights issues included a high number of executions for false confession and false crimes without fair trials of individuals. Torture; harsh and life-threatening prison conditions; arbitrary detention and imprisonment; of hundreds of political prisoners, are just few examples of how the Iranian regime violates the human rights, but we also should add that the regime’s handling of the Covid situation proves that the regime doesn’t care about Ahwazi lives and that raises a great concern and get international attention.

We are calling upon Mr. Javaid Rehman the United Nations special rapporteur for the situation of human rights in Iran and Mrs Agnes Callamard the UN special rapporteur on extra Judicial execution to intervene and stop the Iranian criminal regime from executing innocent prisoners that were arrested without any legal warrant.
